About Us
“What is now known as The Buxton Family Association of America began with a family picnic at the home
of Mary Buxton Parks (now Church) at Douglas, Massachusetts, in 1903. Those present were all descendants
of Otis Buxton, son of Capt. James Buxton, a soldier of the American Revolution and a direct descendant of
Anthony Buxton, a pioneer from England to America in 1637. This family picnic was so thoroughly enjoyed,
that before we parted, another picnic plan was already under way for the following year. In 1904, the picnic
was held at the Douglas Camp Ground with 30 attending. We expect to continue these gatherings as long as the
name of Buxton continues.”
Buxtons have made history and memories to be shared and passed on from generation to generation. We ask
you to please show your support by attending the reunion and enjoying moments with family and friends as was
done at the home of Mary Buxton Church in 1903 and nearly every year since.
Buxton Family Association 2023 Reunion
The 117th Annual Buxton Reunion was held on August 19, 2023, at the historic Heritage Hall, Slatersville,
Rhode Island. The village of Slatersville, America’s first mill community, is a pristine ‘time capsule’ of a community dating back to the beginning of the country’s industrial age. Slatersville was chosen for our Reunion because the Buxtons were one of the original families that settled there and built this early community. Also, the historic Buxton Cemetery was in close proximity for an afternoon visit and photo shoot by the group. A shout-out to Mary Jane & Steve Higgins who arranged the expansive luncheon.
